Style is an expression of individuality. It involves creativity, which brings out the extraordinary by gathering ordinary things together. It is reinterpreting things that surround us such as objects, clothes and fabrics to give birth new meaning, new character, and new persona to the object also to the wearer.
I realised that most of my research had been based on modifying objects to be a fashion item. I looked at several designers such as Matty Bovan, Judy Blame, Gareth Pugh, Christopher Kane and the duo designer, Viktor and Rolf. I study further about sustainability in fashion by reading some books by Sass Brown, “Eco Fashion” and “Green is the new black” by Tamsin Blanchard. I watched a documentary about a journey of clothing by Andrew Morgan, titled “The True Cost”. I become more aware on how harmful fast fashion is for the world.
This brings me to a concept of recycle and upcycle to my style look. Shopping second-hand, re-ycling and up-cyling our own clothes are the affordable way to make the least contribution to the issue. Some of the props are the result of my experimentation during my research. I combined my DIY materials with my own clothing and accessories. I borrowed some of the clothing from my friend and my model.
